Madeleine Leclair

Madeleine Leclair has been working for more than thirty years on the valorisation of musical and sound heritage in ethnographic museums, where she has curated several exhibition projects on music. From 2000 to 2012, she was Head of the Heritage Unit of the Music collections at the Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac. Since 2012, she has been curator of the Department of Ethnomusicology at the Museum of Ethnography Geneva (MEG). This department preserves collections of musical instruments and also the International Archives of Folk Music (IAFM) which in Europe is one of the most important sound archives devoted to musical traditions in the world. At MEG, she is the editorial director of the MEG-AIMP record label (more than twenty albums have been released since she have arrived in the institution). She has been attached to the University of Geneva since 2015, where she teaches at the Master in ethnomusicology (University of Geneva, University of Neuchâtel and Haute école de musique of Geneva). Since 2019, she has developed an artistic activity as a DJ to share her knowledge of the musical traditions recorded in the archives of the One World.
