Volta, real name Raphaël, has been a major figure on the electronic music scene in French-speaking Switzerland for over 25 years. Born in 1982, he discovered music at an early age, composing from the age of 10 and getting his start at the Swiss raves of the 90s. Influenced by the likes of Emmanuel Top and The Prodigy, he started mixing at Space in Ibiza at the age of 18, and went on to perform all over Europe alongside the likes of Vitalic and DJ Hell, always putting on unique vinyl sets. In 2003, he founded the VR Records boutique and the R-Productions agency, which has produced some cult nights, as well as the VR School, a DJing and production school. He also contributed to the Chocolate DJ Contest. His remix for Jesse Somfay in 2006 was hailed by Ellen Allien and Richie Hawtin. With Salvatore Freda, he has released several acclaimed EPs. Today, he runs Wavestudios, teaches and organises Club François evenings, while remaining a committed and respected player on the Swiss techno scene.
