Thierry Romanens & Format A’3

Thierry Romanens
Born in 1963 in Alsace, he formed his first folk music group at the age of 16 in Colmar. It was during an internship with puppeteer Björn Füller at the age of 18 that he realized that it was possible to have a pleasant profession. He went on to perform in cafés and musicals, before arriving in Switzerland in 1987, where he founded the comedy trio Bretelle 007, followed by two solo shows. In 1996, he founded Salut la Compagnie. In 2007, he met Jura poet Alexandre Voisard. With the Format A’3 trio, he set his poems to music. It was a second revelation, one that was to become the hallmark of his artistic work, blending literature and music, song and theater.

Format A’3
Formed in 1998, Format A’3 consists of:
Alexis Gfeller (piano, keyboards), Fabien Sevilla (double bass, effects) and Patrick Dufresne (drums, electronic).
The trio has also taken part in international festivals such as the Festival Jazz Off in Colmar (2005), the Festival de la Défense in Paris (2002), the Tremplin Jazz d’Avignon (2002) and the ‘Kulturtage’ in Dortmund (2004). They also took part in the “Suisse Diagonales” tour in January 2003.

After Voisard, vous avez dit Voisard, Courir by Jean Echenoz, Et j’ai crié Aline by Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz, Thierry Romanens and Format A’3 reprise Stefano Massini’s text, Chapitres de la Chute; La saga des Lehman Brothers. This new creation is presented in July 2023 at the Théâtre de l’Orangerie in Geneva, before touring French-speaking Switzerland.
