PALÉO & MONTREUX: LES SECRETS D’UNE RIVALITÉ COMPLICE
For several decades, the Paléo Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival have played a central role in the Swiss and European cultural landscape. Often portrayed as rivals, these two events actually share a relationship marked by both healthy competition and mutual respect, complementary visions, and a shared history.
In this special workshop, Daniel Rossellat and Mathieu Jaton take a behind-the-scenes look at this “friendly rivalry” that has helped shape the identity of Switzerland’s major festivals. Through anecdotes, artistic strategies, developments in the music industry, and challenges facing the future of cultural events, this discussion offers a comparative perspective on two institutions that have become iconic.
Moderated by Yann Zitouni, this discussion also explores how festivals today contribute to the cultural, economic, and regional influence of the cities that host them.
