Laurent de Wilde
THE MUSIC
Originally self-taught, Laurent went to New York in 1983 to learn jazz piano. He recorded his first albums there in 1986 for IDA Records, before signing with Sony Jazz in 1995 (acoustic period), then with Warner Jazz in 2000 (electronic period), then with Nocturne from 2004 (mixed), and finally on his own Gazebo label from 2012.
Trained in acoustic jazz, he took part in the electronic revolution from 2000 onwards, performing in a variety of formats, from piano-computer duo to electro sextet with DJ. A keen collaborator, he has teamed up with actor Jacques Gamblin and slammer Abd Al Malik for original shows, and since 2016 has been working with multi-instrumentalist Ray Lema on a two-piano repertoire. His latest acoustic trio album, Life is a movie (Gazebo), was released in 2023.
Laurent was named Best Newcomer, then Best Musician at the Victoires du Jazz, Prix Django Reinhardt by the Académie du Jazz and Grand Prix Sacem for his body of work.
