Jasmine Morand
For several years, the Montreux Jazz Artist Foundation has collaborated with the New Echo System artistic residency program in Venice. Each year, several duos consisting of a Swiss artist and an Italian artist meet and work together for a week to create an original repertoire.
This year, the MJAF invited Federico Casagrande, winner of the 2007 Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition, to participate in this residency. For this artistic adventure, he chose to collaborate with dancer and choreographer Jasmin Morand. Following this week of creation in Venice, they will present the result of their joint work, born from the encounter between music and movement.
Jasmine Morand completed her classical training in Geneva and at the Princess Grace Academy of Monaco, after winning first prize at the Swiss National Ballet Competition Solothurn, the Modern Dance Competition Nyon and the Migros Cultural Percentage Study Prize. She began her career as a classical dancer at the National Ballet of Nancy and Lorraine, before joining the Zurich Opera and the National Ballet of Slovenia.
In 2000, she undertook further training in contemporary dance at Codarts in Rotterdam, supported by the Ambrosoli Foundation. She began developing her choreographic craft in the Netherlands and, upon returning to Switzerland, founded the company Prototype Status, which is currently supported by the Canton of Vaud and the City of Vevey. She is also a permanent resident and artistic director of the Dansomètre, a space for choreographic research and creation in Vevey.
