Gregory Porter
When the Montreux Jazz Club welcomed him in 2013, the Californian crooner was still a late-blooming jazz senstation, who had emerged at forty with two remarkable albums: Water and Be Good. With a natural elegance and cap pulled low over his brow, this former American football hopeful brought the gospel tradition and the echoes of Nat King Cole, Donny Hathaway, and Bill Withers to Montreux’s stage. Since then, Gregory Porter has signed with Blue Note, conquered the world’s most prestigious stages—from Broadway to the Royal Albert Hall—and won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album twice. Back at Montreux for his fourth Festival appearance, he shares universal values through soulful ballads and velvety, soaring melodies. Radiant, as always.
