Billy Cobham’ Time Machine

A master of fusion rhythm, Billy Cobham is widely regarded as one of the most influential drummers of his era. Combining jazz complexity and groove with the raw power of rock, he helped define jazz fusion in the early 1970s with the Mahavishnu Orchestra and alongside Miles Davis on the legendary Bitches Brew and A Tribute to Jack Johnson. He is a long-standing favourite of the Montreux Jazz Festival, first taking the stage in 1974, the same year he released his debut album Spectrum. A landmark of jazz, rock and funk fusion, the album features the iconic track “Stratus”, later sampled by Massive Attack and reinterpreted on stage by Prince. The Panamanian-American drummer has been based in Switzerland for over forty years, but continues to appear on stages around the world.
