One of the Festival’s greatest ambassadors, Herbie Hancock is celebrating his 30th appearance this summer at Montreux, where the legendary keyboardist has previously shared a stage with Chick Corea, George Duke, Wayne Shorter, Quincy Jones and Carlos Santana, among many others. Herbie Hancock pioneered a revolutionary new sound as part of the Miles Davis Quintet, and was one of the leading architects of a style of jazz open to new musical trends. Head Hunter’s blend of electric jazz, funk and rock still influences many artists today, while the tracks “Rockit” and “Future Shock” marked the incursion of electronic sounds and hip hop into jazz. Herbie Hancock has won 14 Grammy Awards and an Oscar, and is also the chairman of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (today named Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz) and a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
