RAP NIGHT: R2, MAKALA, RNBOI, BEKAR
Montreux and rap, it just makes sense. Each summer, the Festival shines a spotlight on the artists who are reshaping one of today’s most dominant, multifaceted and unpredictable genres. For its 60th edition, the focus turns to voices that might very well upend the scene of tomorrow. With drill, trap, R&B, melodic firepower and the massive hit “Ruinart” to his name, at just 21, R2 is one of the scene’s most exciting newcomers. Meanwhile, Makala, a leading name in Swiss rap, presents his irresistibly funky third album, Yamoto, produced by Varnish La Piscine. The mood is right where it should be. Hailed as the “new prince of French R&B” and signed by Aya Nakamura, RnBoi keeps dropping bangers (“BTRD” and more). Montreux is ready for him. And just as ready for Bekar, the rising force of Northern French rap, whose debut album Plus fort que l’orage has already made serious waves.
