Mahalia was just thirteen in 2013 when she signed to a record label. She was already playing guitar and writing her own songs, inspired by her parents (both singers) and the artists whose music filled the family home: Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and D’Angelo among others. Ten years on, the Leicester native is one of the leading lights of the British music scene. At the crossroads of neo soul, R&B and hip-hop, her albums and numerous collaborations (including Burna Boy, Stormzy, Raye and Jacob Collier) are enduring proof of her talent. Seeming to epitomise her innate grace and strength, Mahalia’s melodies and flow always deliver. She will be performing at the Festival for the second time, following a standout performance in 2018 at the Montreux Jazz Lab.
