Gripped by the effects of Tourette’s syndrome, the Glaswegian was spurred on by the crowd as they sang “Someone You Loved”, the poignant single from Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, the UK’s fastest-selling album that year. Two years later, he had a triumphant return to the same stage. In the meantime, he crafted a series of lyrical, melancholic ballads, marking his comeback with Survive, a majestic, hope-filled album, and a bold initiative that provided 734,000 hours of free therapy to his fans.
