Juliette de Banes Gardonne

Music journalist and singer Juliette de Banes Gardonne is one of the most original voices of her generation. A graduate of the Haute École de Musique de Genève (soloist’s master’s degree) and the Université Lyon Lumière (anthropology degree), she also studied at the EHESS and the Institute of Musicology at the University of Fribourg, before making her debut as a mezzo-soprano in opera. From 2017, she devoted herself primarily to rediscovering unpublished baroque repertoire, recording a selection of secular cantatas by the Neapolitan composer Cristofaro Caresana for Brilliant, and then recording the manuscript for Maria Pignatelli for Claves in 2019. That same year she became a regular contributor to the Lettre du musicien and the Revue musicale de Suisse Romande. In 2022, she was appointed producer and presenter at RTS on Espace 2 for the programme Bazar, before being hired as senior music journalist in the culture section of the newspaper Le Temps. She covers the jazz scene, world music and classical music in a variety of formats: reviews, portraits, reports, surveys and podcasts. She is a regular guest at the Montreux Jazz Festival, hosting a conference on women in jazz.
