Any fan of Afro-Latin music has already heard of New York DJ/producer NICKODEMUS, founder of the Wonderwheel Recordings label and his famous Turntables on the Hudson parties. An essential reference on the New York scene for over two decades and a pillar of the Afro-tropical groove movement, Nickodemus is considered one of the most talented DJs, and his memorable sets rock dancefloors all over the world! His career began at the age of 14, when Nickodemus became one of New York’s first eclectic DJs, blending reggae, house music, hip-hop, and jazz. Nickodemus became known to the general public with his huge hit “Mi Swing Es Tropical” with Quantic and Candela, as well as his remixes for artists such as Bob Marley, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Mr. Scruff, Natacha Atlas, Thievery Corporation, and Balkan Beat Box. But he is recognized above all for his DJ sets, a true world tour of dance music. The globally appreciated DJ and producer is back with his fifth album, “Soul & Science,” the result of a collaboration between old and new friends, recorded in his home studio and during his countless tours.
Known in many circles around the world for his inimitable style rooted in the many cultures of New York City, Nickodemus blends influences from Latin, African, Middle Eastern, and Caribbean diasporas, combining them with local sounds such as House, Disco, and Hip-Hop with style and finesse. Supported and regularly invited by DJs like Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff, Quantic, and Guts, Nickodemus continues to travel the world to help us discover new sounds from the four corners of the globe in legendary DJ sets. By combining heavy club rhythms with organic Latin, African, and Oriental music, Nickodemus has truly left his mark on world music.
