Lord Funk

Starting his career in the late 80s in collaboration with labels like BMG and Africa Seven, Celluloid is a seasoned crate-digger and DJ. His sets are a lush fusion of Breaks, House, Boogie, Electro, Disco Rap, Soul Funk, and Afro-Latin grooves. In the early 90s, he founded the legendary USA MUSIC store in Paris and hosted the radio show L’Archipel Du Funk on Transat FM and later Rinse for three years. Known for his deep record collection, he held a six-year monthly residency at the New Casino alongside Erik Rug for the “Wax Groove” parties.

His journey then took him to New York, where he teamed up with Phillip Lehman to create Wagram Records, promote the “St Germain Des Prés” label, and build the foundation for Desco Records—the precursor to the iconic Dap-Kings (Sharon Jones, Lee Fields, Antibalas, Menahan Street Band). During this time, he managed A1 Records, becoming the “official supplier” of rare vinyl and loops for legendary producers including Fat Boy Slim, Masters At Work, Cypress Hill, Q-Tip, Bob Sinclar, Questlove, Madlib, and The Alchemist.

As a producer, he has contributed to the soundtracks of numerous films and TV spots, working with Frank Gastambide, Romain Gavras, and Kim Chapiron. Today, he focuses on his own label, Boogie Butt Records, where he produces and coordinates projects for artists such as Clarence “Blowfly” Reid, The Real Fake MC, Patchworks, and Opolopo.
