Dar Disku
Dar Disku is an independent record label and DJ collective founded in 2019, based between the UK and Bahrain, dedicated to championing sounds from the Middle East, Asia, and beyond.
Childhood friends from the same neighborhood in Bahrain, Mazen Almaskati and Vish M have long been fascinated by the connections between traditional swana* music and electronic sounds. Their creative partnership evolved from teenage music discovery and trading mix CDs to performing in bands influenced by both Western projects and the Arabic records of their youth.
Moving to the UK for university deepened their connection to the swana diaspora, turning their longing for home into a hypnotic musical exploration. After sharing stages globally at venues like Fabric, Glastonbury, and Magnetic Fields, they launched Dar Disku Records in 2020. The label serves as a home for dance floor-ready edits of rare gems spanning sub-genres like Khaleeji HiNRG, Arabidisco, and Sawt.
In September 2024, they released their debut album via Soundway Records. A cinematic, transportive work, the LP channels influences from Egyptian folk, Turkish psych, and Sudanese funk. Through a meticulous analog approach, Dar Disku successfully transforms their heritage into something both timeless and new.
