Born in Nigeria, Jacob Banks arrived in Birmingham at the age of 13. A burglary he suffered while at University pushed him to compose more seriously: only his guitar escaped the thieves. He started hitting London’s open mic nights and was noticed for his talents as a songwriter and singer. After two poignant albums, the EP The Boy Who Cried Freedom finally brought him consecration. Like Rag’n’Bone Man, he blends together soul, electronic sounds, and hip-hop beats on the excellent “Chainsmoking". Listed by Time Magazine as one of the best singles of 2017, it was followed by the unsettling “Unknown (To You)”, remixed by Timbaland at the end of the year...We can expect great things in 2018.
