“Bringing gospel closer to its African roots” is the idea behind this project blending Afro-pop from Mali and gospel from the US. Amadou & Mariam, who have combined love and music for forty-some years, are among the most famous ambassadors of African music. Their star status has seen them grace the stages of the biggest festivals in the world, from Coachella to Glastonbury. This Malian duo has collaborated with numerous international artists including Damon Albarn and Manu Chao. The Blind Boys of Alabama represent a long tradition that started with a choir for blind children in the 1930s. Winners of five Grammy Awards, they are recognized planet-wide as legends of gospel, and have recorded with Lou Reed, Peter Gabriel, Bonnie Raitt, and Ben Harper. Together, Amadou & Mariam and The Blind Boys of Alabama will celebrate in Montreux their vision of positive music open to the world.
