Making their third appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Mountbatten Big Band are delighted to be returning after their performances in 2015 and 2016. The band has worked hard to achieve its reputation as one of the finest school Big Bands in the UK. This is a great achievement when you consider that the band members are all aged 12-16. The band plays a varied repertoire of classics by Count Basie and Duke Ellington, and more contemporary works by composers such as Vijay Iyer and Dan Mar-Molinero, as well as works written by members of the band. Many former members of the band have gone on to play in the UK National Youth Jazz Collective, and to study jazz at major conservatoires. The band rehearses each week on Fridays after school, under the direction of their Musical Director, Stu Marchant, and Assistant Director Jahan Hunter.
