Hyperactive new venue at the heart of the House of Jazz, La Coupole is a site for seething exchanges that groove from the afternoon to the wee hours. Unpredictable by nature, in this space jazz reveals a different audacious and surprising aspect each day.
From 3pm: Workshops
Intimate and always surprising, the Festival’s workshops offer privileged access to selected artists, who passionately unveil the secrets of their art. On deck: heavyweights of jazz (Stanley Clarke, Bugge Wesseltoft, Eivind Aarset) and electronic music (Hauschka, Carl Craig, Ólafur Arnalds).
From 6pm: Montreux Jazz Talent Awards
As early as the first edition in 1967 the Montreux Jazz Festival was organizing jazz competitions. Ever since, we have been adapting them to the realities of the day. This year, the Montreux Jazz Talent Awards are taking over from the Montreux Jazz Competitions.
The Montreux Jazz Talent Awards underscore different ways of imagining virtuosity and jazz in all its forms. Demos from 16 artists chosen directly by the Festival’s team of programmers will be evaluated by an Artists Committee, composed of musicians and producers well known at the Festival. The artists will then be judged by a second jury at a public performance on the stage La Coupole. Two prizes will be awarded:
- the Parmigiani Montreux Jazz Solo Keys Award for the best on piano or keyboard
- the Shure Montreux Jazz Band Award for the best band
From 11pm: Jam sessions and Bals de La Coupole
After the concerts in the Montreux Jazz Club, located just downstairs, fearless musicians will join artists on the programme of the Festival and the young talents of the Montreux Jazz Academy for memorable jam sessions that last the whole night long! Thrice during the Festival, the jam sessions will be replaced by the Bals de La Coupole (29 June, 7 and 14 July).
