Techno? That label is too limiting for this son of Detroit. DJ, producer, remixer, and patron of the influential label Planet E, the former right-hand-man of Derrick May has a long history of being open to sometimes major conceptual adventures. As he puts it, “My ambition is to produce music that is equally adapted to clubs, classical orchestras, and jazz”. This American artist spellbound Montreux in 1999 and 2007, and is returning once again to present the album Versus, released in 2017. In that album his dancefloor hits are revisited from an electronic and (neo) classical angle with pianist Francesco Tristano and symphonic orchestra Les Siècles. Carl Craig continues the experimentation on stage, accompanied by a sextet including synths, piano, and machines, promising rhythmic power and chromatic nuances: the DNA of techno.
