Brad Mehldau Triofeat.
Larry Grenadier & Jeff Ballard
Brad Mehldau is a regular at the Festival – he has already played seven times, notably with Pat Metheny, John Scofield and Kurt Rosenwinkel. He’ll be back this year with a trio, his favorite type of group, which he has explored in depth, especially on the five volumes of The Art of the Trio. Brad Mehldau’s improvisation skills are unparalleled, but he is also fascinated by the architecture of music. This subtle combination of spontaneity and thoroughness gives his work an air of wonderfully controlled chaos. At the beginning of the year, Brad Mehldau released After Bach: four preludes and a fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier, enriched by the American pianist. On stage, Brad Mehldau plays his own compositions as well as revisiting classical music, jazz standards and pop hits.
