The prestigious magazine Downbeat has repeatedly named him a rising star of the trumpet, and he recently released two luminous albums on ECM: Into the Silence and Cross My Palm With Silver. Equally at ease when playing with a fine and airy or a nervy and tense style, today he is unveiling his most ferocious facet. Often compared to Miles Davis, Avishai Cohen is now exploring an audacious juxtaposition of the complexity of jazz and the robustness of rock. Within the project Big Vicious, this Israeli artist is surrounded by a ‘mirrored’ rhythm section composed of two guitars and two drum sets. In the middle, the trumpeter conjures his rock influences, chaining together clever motifs and prodigious improvisations.
