(1942 – 2018)
The Festival pays homage to the inextinguishable light of soul music. Aretha Franklin’s fervor and voice will continue to inspire future generations, beyond music, as they discover their own passion. People still tell the story of Claude Nobs using a box of chocolates to convince the queen of soul to fly to Switzerland and perform at the casino in Montreux. On 12 June 1971, singing and at the piano, Aretha Franklin made a crucial contribution to the Festival’s vibe, adding to its soul and legend.
