Today we pay tribute to a major artist and friend of the Festival. It is with emotion that we think back on the four editions brightened by the sunny, magnetic presence of Charles Bradley.
The Montreux Jazz Festival fell under the charm of the Screaming Eagle of Soul in 2011. That year, at 58, he released his first album and set the Miles Davis Hall on fire when he opened for B.B. King. Two year later, he created one of the most beautiful moments in the history of the Montreux Jazz Club...
In 2014, the “Daptone Super Soul Revue”, a celebration of soul music, unfolded over almost three hours, with Bradley serving as MC alongside Sharon Jones. The showman closed out his final Montreux concert in 2016 with the heartfelt “Why is it so Hard?”. That question will never be answered, but the voice of Charles Bradley will forever have the power to make our lives a little bit easier.
Thank you for everything, Charles Bradley.
