Five years after her victory at the Festival’s piano competition, Marialy Pacheco returns to Montreux to present her new album Duets, released in 2017. At 34, this Cuban pianist’s unfettered and energetic play style has been enriched by her extensive travels. In fact, her latest record comprises intimate, virtuoso dialogues with artists from all over the globe: from Brazil to Puerto Rico, from Germany to Morocco. This pianist is very familiar with duets, having memorably improvised with Chick Corea at a concert in 2014. Especially for the Festival, Marialy Pacheco will be accompanied by Germany’s Joo Kraus, who recorded one of his albums in Havana and won the Echo Jazz prize for best trumpet German player in 2012.
