M is for Mali. Matthieu Chedid’s newest project links Paris, Bamako and the rest of the world. It celebrates Mali’s beauty and the beauty of its music. His latest album is called LAMOMALI. It is a fusion of pop culture and traditional Malian music thanks to a 5-star collective. Frenchman Chedid called on international kora stars Toumani Diabaté and his son Sidiki Diabaté, and Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara, who made her name with the film Timbuktu. Other guests on the album include Oxmo Puccino on the funky “Bal à Bamako” and Senegal’s Youssou N’Dour, who will be playing at the Stravinski the same night, and who will certainly join M on stage. Of course, Chedid knows the Auditorium like the back of his hand – he filled it with his crazy solos in 2014. Last time he played the Festival in 2015, he extended the evening with a jam session in the Club. The atmosphere should be even better this year with the energetic Afro-pop of LAMOMALI!
