Kurt Rosenwinkel, one of the most influential jazz guitarists of his generation, presents Caipi, his most personal work to date. It took ten years to perfect this latest album, on which he sings for the first time his own lyrics and plays all of the instruments. Inspired by Brazilian love songs, the music of Rosenwinkel is sunny and warm. It features the unique touch of the guitarist: pared-down melodies, a keen sense of improvisation, and a complex, carefully-wrought sound. This easily recognizable style has earned him collaborations over two decades with artists including Brad Mehldau, Avishai Cohen, and Q-Tip. The Caipi project is also a wonderful Montreux story: Pedro Martins, winner of the guitar competition at the Festival, performs on Kurt Rosenwinkel’s record and is now recording alongside him. The mentor and his student met at the Montreux Jazz Academy in 2015. Instant artistic chemistry!
