Environmental Responsibility
Waste management
A public event will inevitably generate a certain amount of waste and the Montreux Jazz Festival’s mission is to limit its creation while at the same time maximizing sorting and recycling.
On site, this goal manifests itself in the following ways:
- returning the site to its original state on a daily basis;
- a team that works 24 hours a day, sorting trash and ensuring the cleanliness of the festival areas;
- An eco-compatible waste plant;
- Eco Points spread across the site, both indoors and outdoors, allowing the public to recycle items including plastic cups, PET, glass, aluminium, paper/cardboard, and items to be incinerated;
- Prevention and information for the public, in partnership with the Summit Foundation, to promote eco-friendly measures
The Festival is able to optimize its waste management thanks to past experience, plus its participation with experts in the field:
- PET recycling (www.pet-recycling.ch)
- IGSU (www.igsu.ch) - the Interest Group for a Clean Environment in Switzerland who is working together with the private sector against littering
- IGORA (www.igora.ch) - collecting and recycling of used aluminium beverage cans
- Summit Foundation (www.summit-foundation.org)
- Retripa S.A.

Transport
Public transport
The Montreux Jazz Festival encourages the use of public transportation. For more information visit the Transport page
Car Sharing
The Montreux Jazz Festival collaborates with non-profit organization e-covoiturage.ch in order to provide a simple and advantageous service to festival-goers. Car sharing can reduce traffic jams and open up parking spaces. It is also a nice gesture to protect the Ozone layer! For more information visit the Transport page
Clean Cars
HONDA, the official car partner of the Montreux Jazz Festival, has integrated 10 Jazz Hybrid into a fleet of 30 cars made available to the organization. Thanks to its unique hybrid technology which combines a petrol engine with an electric motor, the new Jazz Hybrid is remarkably fuel efficient and emissions are low.
Electricity consumption
By opting as much as possible for local eco-friendly energy sources, The Montreux Jazz Festival makes a commitment to protecting the environment.
Alpiq, energy partner in the “Jardin”
As a pioneer in energy business in Switzerland, Alpiq specialises in optimizing energy efficiency in buildings by way of its Alpiq InTec branch.
The energy firm is partner with the Festival for a second consecutive year and provides ever-increasing energy efficient power for the hospitality area which hosts public relations events for partners.
The “Jardin” is therefore lit using a system of latest generation LEDs that consume very little electricity. Thirty-six photovoltaic cells occupying 55 square metres are also to provide part of the power source for this area, producing energy that can be re-injected into the grid.
Green label
The European association of festivals Yourope has awarded the Montreux Jazz Festival the “Green ‘n’ Clean Award”, thus distinguishing it as actively participating in the reduction of environmental waste produced at its event.
